Letting the customer decide.

As a 12-year-old Indiana paperboy, I learned quickly if I wanted to get tips, I needed to deliver the paper the way they wanted it… some requested in the storm door so they wouldn’t have to walk outside, others wanted with no rubber band so as not to leave creases and curled paper, one wanted in front of his garage to remember to take it to work… none of them wanted it wet from rain or sprinklers. Giving customers what they want to be happy paid then and it pays now.

Effective marketing starts with active listening. Customers “speak” through every interaction— clicks, calls, questions… every choice they make. We “listen” when we understand what their actions tell us: who they are, what they value most, what they respond to and what they don’t. We should respond accordingly.

In an AI world, true listening possible if we do it right. The difference is made when we use that insight to personalize their experience. When we listen well, behavior becomes predictable—and growth becomes sustainable.
